Baby Bree Update...

I am just amazed at the outpouring of love you have all shared. The donations, the prayers, the thoughts, the emails have just been amazing. You are all so wonderful!

Bree had her first round of chemotherapy last week. This is a picture of Justin and Kari with their boys trying to still keep life "normal" for their sons. They took the boys trick-or-treating, and then headed back to the hospital to be with Bree.I just spoke with Bree's grandma who is answering calls at the house. Bree is in the hospital right now because her white blood count is too low. They've given her a growth hormone stimulating factor (neucopene) to stimulate her white blood cells to grow new cells (neutrophils) that would bring her back up. Her red blood count also dropped so she had a blood transfusion this morning.

On Friday they received results back from an MIGB scan which basically let them know that the cancer had spread into the long bones of her arms & legs, shoulder bones and pelvis.

She will have her next chemo treatment on November 21st so Kari has asked that people pray extra hard that day.

Kari said, "Despite all of this Bree has been very content. She is laughing and smiling more and doesn’t seem as nauseated. Her personality has been a breath of fresh air for us. Her sweet temperament brings a smile to our face as we deal with this disease."And the last comment Kari made at the end of her post is such an example to me. She said, "So we had a few set backs this week. But we also realize that is part of the deal. If it were all easy then it wouldn’t be a trial of faith. If everything always went as planned then there wouldn’t be room for any miracles."

I am planning on going to deliver the gift basket this Thursday (November 13th). You truly have been amazing and I am so excited to bring a little bit of sunshine to the Cook family that came from so many amazing people....most of them complete strangers to the Cooks. If any donations come for their family after this time, I will be sure and get it to them. Thank you so much!!!!

I am absolutely heartbroken over this. It's so unfair that Bree (and her family) have to go through this. I pray that God wraps his loving arms around them and gives them the strength that they need to get through this.

thank you for the update, I was wondering how they were all getting on, what an inspirational family, still finding the time to take the boys trick and treating and looking at the setbacs as a challenge, my thoughts and prayers remain with little Bree and her wonderful family, may god bless her

I just now read about little Bree and my heart aches for this beautiful family. My prayers go out to them all. I sent a donation in hopes that it's not too late for the gift basket. Please let them know that there are a lot of prayers being said for them and what an inspiration they are.

I feel a little of your pain. My daughter has a genetic kidney disorder. The hospital is our home away from home.

Hi Summer. I just sent you a donation through Paypal. I wish the best for Kari and her family. I will keep them in my prayers. It really is so sad to see when people already have a challenge in there life with one child having a disability and then another with cancer so young. My 10 year old has Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy and cant imagine having a 2nd child so sick with such a struggle with what he has already. My heart goes out to them. Tammy

Bree is such an adorable little girl- I hope and pray that all will be well with the Cook family:) Their story has really opened my eyes- as any of us could have this happen at any time. Their positive attitudes are amazing to witness- I hope I could be the same with such a situation.

I sent my donation when you first blogged about this sweet family. You are such a blessing Summer! Whatever you choose is wonderful, but it would be fun if you could post a photo of what you give. Blessings! Kristen

It is so hard to little ones go through such BIG things. My nephew was diagnosed with leukemia back in May. He is 9 and is on his last round of chemo. He is cancer FREE!! She is such an adorable little girl. If she is a Phoenix Children's she may be in the same area as my nephew. I will keep praying for them.

Thank you for bringing this story to us, Summer. It's devastating to hear, but also inspiring to read about on their family blog. They seem like such a wonderful family.

Take pictures of the gift baskets so we can see what neat stuff you got!!

Hi there,

I just now found your blog (thanks to Vicki Parker who posted your link on her blog) and the story about Baby Bree touched me deeply.

I have very little money, no PayPal account (yet) and no credit card, but I'll try to find a way to donate something.

Thank you so much for the update on the little girl. She's so beautiful, a little sunshine, and I hope she will fully recover soon.

Thank you again for sharing the story, and thank you so much for the beautiful kit!

Best wishes from Germany,
Anne

Ohh this is so sad. How strong and brave are her family? And you only have to look into her mamma's eyes to see the pain and fear that is there - as a mum of 2 girls, that breaks my heart. Lots of thoughts and prayers for this precious little girl, and bless you Summer as well. If I was ever in such an awful position, I could think of nobody better to have as a friend xxx

My contribution was not big - but use it however the family needs it.
My prayers for them and for you for taking the time to rally others

Summer,

I left a message for you last night and at the time, I was unaware you had posted an update.

Thank you for keeping "us" all informed. Breezy is such a beautiful little girl. The Cook Family will be in my prayers. I will continue to visit your website for future updates.

You are a gem.

Regards,

Candice

I just ache for the Cooks! The picture at the top of your update says volumes. You can see the pain in the mom's eyes, just as you can see hope in Bree's. I have four beautiful children and cannot imagine having to deal with a trial like this. I don't know the Cook family, but I am praying that God will pour out his blessings on them. What a great example of faith!

Thank you for the update. I was wondering if more donations come in if the family might be interested in a indoor swing for their kids. I have a child with Down Syndrome and swings are great for their development. You can see swings at Abilitations.com. a website for special needs kids, adaptive equiptment etc...
All the childen will love it. I think you have done something extraordinary here. Next week I will donate through paypal again. Take care and God Bless!

I have loved reading your blog and enjoying your beautiful creations. This particular story has tucked at my heart. I can't imagine going through anything like that. I too have a little boy named Gunnar (spelled with an a) that is 2.5 years old and can not begin to understand their heartache. I donated some money today and hope that you will be able to put it to good use.

What a sweet little baby girl and family. I love the perspective her mom has of this being a trial of faith. I always 'expect' miracles and that changes my outlook about everything. Thank you for the update...brought tears to my eyes and I don't even know this sweet family!

You are a great friend Summer. A lot of people wouldn't know what to do, or if they should do anything. You have an award from me, one because I love your kits so much, and silly as it seems, awards always boost my heart :)

I am so incredibly sorry that a little one would have to go through so much. I cannot even begin to imagine how parents would handle something like this. My daughter at age 1 1/2 had cancer and I thought my world would end. She is fine now...but I remember the feelings. This has brought them back. My heart is with your friends. My prayers are for them to be strengthened.

I'm too late getting something to you for Kari & family. Do you have Kari's address? Don't want to bother her by asking if you have it handy. Or I could just mail it to you... either way works for me.

I love your kits and I have been following your blog over the last few months. Your story about your friend and her daughter has really touched me. I have a 9 month old little girl and I don't know how I would even begin to deal with such a thing as cancer. She must be a strong woman! Thanks for this chance to reflect on my own blessings. Bree and her family are in my prayers.

The one thing I have learned is Heavenly Father teaches us by example and the greatest examples of all are little children. We had a son for 12 yrs and he was the most perfect love of anyone in my home. You already know that with your child. They teach us how to love like Christ would love us. Hang in there and know you are not walking this alone. Many angels area helping you along, Heavenly Father and the Savior are carring you when you can't walk and most of all, that beautiful angel child will be the greatest of lifes' lessons. Never give up and never doubt God's plan. Good luck to you, your family and most of all your angel who is sick. Love the Bradley Family, Patricia
