When Brittany a 29 yr old loving wife and mother of 2 small children (Alexis age 4 and Jackson age 2) woke from emergency spinal surgery at 3am on Easter Sunday morning, as a result of a mountain biking accident in which she flew over the handle bars and broke 3 vertabrae, leaving her paralyzed, the first thing she asked her husband Jeff was whether he had remembered to get blue string for the kids for Easter. This is the type of selfless and loving person Brittany is! Even in the face of such personal tragedy, she is thinking of others. She remains in the Neuro ICU.
Her husband Jeff must immediately put their 2-story home on sale, find a 1 story home and move his family into it. He must do this prior to Brittany’s release from the hospital in the next 4-6 months and the new home will very likely still require some additional “accessible” modifications to accommodate her. He must sell his vehicle in lieu of a wheel chair accessible vehicle. And, he will need support caring for their two small children, all while spending as much time as he can with his wife as she recovers and is rehabilitated. All of this above and beyond estimated out-of-pocket medical expenses of 50,000 dollars.
Her absolutely devastated family describes her as their strength, the rock that grounds them and the glue that holds them together. They are absolutely heart broken. Her husband describes her has best friend and partner in every aspect life. She supported him through school and is a part of absolutely everything decision he makes.
In the past 3 years, there’s been enough tragedy in Brittany’s personal life including the death of one of her twin sisters and her father’s continuing fight against cancer.
Brittany was an on-call volunteer for a rape crisis center Salt Lake City Utah for battered or assaulted victims. Whenever called upon regardless of the hour, Brittany would rush to the side of a victim in the hospital. And, those with depression or lonliless issues have always held a tender place in her heart. Brittany has always been willing to drop virtually everything to help them…including helping care for their children, while they worked through their challenges.
For all the time, love and support Brittany has extended to so many over the years, we are asking for help for Brittany and her family.
Please spread the word! Please help this amazing woman and wonderful family! We would greatly appreciate any contribution, no matter how small!
