Cozy Christmas kit

Whew! What a whirlwind of a season! With Thanksgiving being later this year, everything has been on fast forward for me. Has it for you? I guess it always feel rushed because I am a procrastinator when it comes to Christmas shopping. Hopefully one day I can be like my friends who get it all done in July. Wouldn't that be nice?

This Christmas season feels different for me and here's why. The day before Thanksgiving when I was making rolls, they were on the pan and ready to go in the oven. I realized that my oven wasn't heating up! I had to quickly call a friend and borrow her oven to bake my rolls. When we got back home after the Thanksgiving weekend, I called the oven guy and he came and said the control pad was broken in the back. He ordered the part and it was going to be delivered the next week. The day later I got a call from the oven company and they said that part is discontinued and so they wouldn't be able to fix my oven. WE HAD TO BUY AN ENTIRE NEW OVEN!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!! It still isn't here yet and won't be here for another week!

So, I am going through baking withdrawals because I LOVE to bake, especially around the holidays!

I also realize I need to not complain because this has helped me do two things:

1) Since I am not baking the treats, that means I am not eating cookies and therefore I MIGHT fit into my jeans for Christmas. (I've had to supplement with ice cream and Reese Christmas trees, so maybe not).

2) Since I couldn't bake neighborhood treats (which normally takes me awhile), we simplified this year which has helped me spend more time with my kids.

But I can be patient...just 6 more days and all will be well again.

I love being with family at Christmas time. I love snuggling with my kids. I love talking on the phone to my sisters. I love seeing my brothers when we travel to Mesa to see them. I love seeing my dad and step-family and in-laws. And I love the special tradition of taking my kids just 3 days before Christmas to bring breakfast and eat it at the cemetery at my mom's gravesite. We call it "Breakfast at Grandy's." Spending time with those I love is what my favorite memories are. I really hope that I can instill in my kids that same feeling. I know when I was little and I was in the moment it was all about the presents. But as I look back at it and think of my memories, it was the time spent with my family (followed by running around to my friends' houses to see what they got and show them what I got).

I included two quotes in my Christmas kit this year that I learned as a child. I have always loved them and they've stuck with me. The first one is a play on words and it says, "Are you part of the INN crowd, or one of the STABLE few?" This one actually helped me as a teenager to know that it wasn't as important to be part of the "in" crowd, but instead that it was more important to be part of the crowd who loved and served others. I chose good friends who helped me to achieve this and I feel that I've been blessed in my life to have been taught by my parents and others of the importance to do good to others and to not think so much of myself. Being this way has helped me to be "stable."

And that leads me to the second quote. It's an acronym and it says, "True JOY comes from serving Jesus first, Others next, and Yourself last." I have learned that when I keep my life in this order, by first, never forgetting to pray and read my scriptures and learning more about our Savior, and second, serving others and being kind to everyone I meet, and finally, doing the things that I want to do...when I prioritize my life in this order I find true happiness.

Whew! My fingers just took over. Sorry for this novel. I guess to sum it up, I hope that you all are able to prioritize your time so that you have time to spend with those most important to you. I hope you all have a wonderful winter season and a Merry Christmas. Below is the kit called Cozy Christmas and below that is our Christmas card this year. Enjoy!

Click here to download the kit. I apolgize for the amount of downloads. Where we live we have a very slow internet connection so I had to do it this way. And for those who have trouble figuring out how to download, CLICK HERE for a tutorial I had made:
